Water Watch Issued for City of Coffeyville

A water watch is now in effect within the City of Coffeyville.  The resolution was adopted at the city commission meeting Tuesday night.

According to Water Services Director Steve Smith, the watch is the first stage in the city's water management plan.

Smith says stage two would most likely be triggered by pulling from reserves or low lake levels upstream. That could result in car washes and laundromats being asked to close.

Stage three, a water emergency, is the final stage and would result in mandatory water restrictions.

Smith says no significant rain is predicted in the next 90 days according to the National Weather Service, but lakes upstream still have plenty of water available.

The purpose of the water watch is to encourage conservation and raise awareness of the situation.
