Indy Man Bites Police Officer While in Custody

A suspect leads Montgomery County deputies on a chase through Independence.

Yesterday at around 2:21am, patrol deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of 16th and Laurel for a car traveling 90mph in a posted 30mph zone. Deputies pursued the vehicle through town and after the vehicle struck a stop sign the driver exited the vehicle and started running on foot. Deputies recognized the driver and identified him as Norman Hiner of Independence. Deputies knew Hiner had several felony warrants and has eluded officers on multiple occasions.

Deputies gave chase on foot for several blocks before they were able to catch Hiner and take him into custody with the assistance of the Independence Police Department. During the arrest process, Hiner started biting on to one of the IPD officer's legs. Hiner was booked on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement officers, battery on a LEO, and several traffic infractions.
