Kansas Gubernatorial Candidate Derek Schmidt chooses a fourth-generation Kansan as his running mate. Lt. Governor Candidate Katie Sawyer says she is from central Kansas, spent some time in southeastern Kansas for college and has a background in both journalism and agriculture.

Sawyer says that Schmidt and her share several of the same goals when it comes to not only the SEK but the state as a whole.  Sawyer was chosen by Schmidt in early June to be his running mate. Her political career started in 2016 with now U.S. Senator Roger Marshall. Sawyer recently visited Coffeyville, where she made several stops including the community college and KGGF.
