GOP Gubernatorial Hopeful Proposes Sales Tax Exemption For Diapers

 

Yesterday Kansas Attorney General and GOP Nominee for Governor Derek Schmidt announced a plan to eliminate state sales tax on diapers and feminine hygiene products in his first 100 days if elected.

Schmidt said that other governors in states in our region have stepped up and provided relief to young women, mothers, and families by making their daily life more affordable. With inflation at its worst in 40 years, Schmidt said this is a tax policy that is based on fairness and common sense. Diapers and feminine hygiene products are just as essential as prescription drugs and eyeglasses. Which are already exempt.

This is the second tax-relief proposal Schmidt has offered while campaigning for Governor. His Retire Tax-Free plan would eliminate Kansas’ income tax on Social Security Benefits, pensions, and distributions from dedicated retirement accounts like 401k’s
