The Kansas Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Galena Police Department will be looking for drunk drivers this holiday weekend. According to a news release from KHP, a sobriety checkpoint will be set up on K-66 at Schermerhorn Rd, in Galena, KS.
Annually about 10,000 people are killed in alcohol-related traffic crashes, that’s one alcohol-related fatality every 50 minutes. Traffic-related deaths are the greatest single cause of death for children ages 0 to 19.
The goal of this checkpoint is to encourage compliance, by removing drivers that are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Officers would appreciate the patience and cooperation of all citizens involved with the checkpoint.
