Kid's Poster and Video Contest Raises Awareness Of Traffic Related Fatalities

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, about 37,000 people die in traffic crashes each year across the United States. That’s nearly 101 fatalities every day.

That’s why KDOT has designated October 10th as the official Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day each year. KDOT sponsors a Poster and Video Contest for Kansas Kids where students can win prizes and learn about traffic safety. The poster contest is for ages 5-13. A total of 18 regional winners will receive a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and a helmet from Safe Kids Kansas. The statewide winners will each receive a Kindle Fire Tablet and case, a $50 Amazon gift card, movie passes and $200 for the school, class or booster club.

For Kansas teens in grades 8-12 the winners of the video contest will receive a GoPro, a DJI stabilizer and DJI Drone, and the winner’s school, class or booster club will get $500.
