Kansas Sen. Peck Points to 'Misinformation' Surrounding Proposed Abortion Amendment

Saying that the legislature, not the courts, should have the ultimate say on what laws are passed in the state, Kansas State Senator Virgil Peck called out what he called “misinformation” put out by opponents of the so-called “Value Them Both” constitutional amendment which appears on the ballot this coming Tuesday.

Peck claimed that there are currently laws on the books that restrict some abortions in Kansas, but that those laws would likely be struck down in a court challenge as unconstitutional if the amendment fails. In his support of the proposed amendment, Peck cited a recent statement from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt saying that passage would not affect treatment for ectopic or septic pregnancies or miscarriages in the state.

A vote for the amendment would affirm there is no Kansas constitutional right to abortion or to require the government funding of abortion and would reserve to the people of Kansas, through their elected state legislators, the right to pass laws to regulate abortion.

Peck was a guest on “A Small World with Bill Small” Friday morning on KGGF.
