City of Coffeyville Water Department To Start Water Line Flushing Tomorrow

Tomorrow the City of Coffeyville Water Department will be conducting its annual flushing project on the City’s water system. Flushing the lines will scour the sides, breaking loose any accumulated sediment and bacterial growth. Eric Eagle, Master Operator, spoke with KGGF news this morning about the project.

The Water Department will temporarily stop the addition of ammonia tomorrow. When ammonia is added to the treated water it chemically reacts with the chlorine and reduces the chlorine odor. But the ammonia also reduces the effectiveness of the chlorine as a disinfectant. Despite the increased chlorine odor, the chlorine concentration will not be any higher than before. It will not be above the KDHE limit for chlorine concentration.

Although the appearance, taste, and odor may not be ideal, the water will be safe and will continue to meet KDHE requirements.
