State Rep. John Eplee, from Atchison, who is a physician, requested Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s legal opinion about ectopic pregnancies or fetal demise and how that would affect a physician’s ability to render care as it related to the Amendment that is currently being voted on statewide at the polls. Schmidt said in his formal legal opinion that passage of the Value Them Both Amendment would not affect a doctor’s ability to care for ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, or fetal demise and that those procedures or conditions are not abortion under Kansas Law.
