The Kansas Department of Transportation has recognized that there are increasing amounts of trash along the highways and so they have created an incentive stipend for groups that participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program. Groups and organizations that have helped keep Kansas clean for more than 30 years will now get $190 per highway section, which is generally two miles long.

New and existing groups will be able to submit a request for payment after their group completes a highway cleanup. KDOT says this benefits groups that are currently providing a valuable service and encourages them to take on more sections and it will increase the overall number of groups taking part in the clean-up program.
