Independence Community College welcomes new Director of Veteran Student Success. Tommy Ellis from Sherman, Texas holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management and a Master of Science in Labor Economics and Industrial Relations from North Texas State University.

Ellis said, “Being an Army veteran myself and having worked closely with the military at various posts during peak conflicts in the middle-East has given me a rare opportunity to see the challenges we face in helping veterans transition from the stress of military life to campus life." Ellis also said, "Working with the veteran population at ICC will allow me the honor and privilege to serve this great Nation by serving those who continue to protect it.”

ICC was appointed as a Purple Hear College by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. This classification is in recognition of the support for military members, including veterans and their families. The Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success at ICC strives to support student veterans in achieving their academic, career, and personal goals.
