An Area Lake is listed on the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Blue Green Algae List. Lake Tanko just south of Cherryvale has a moderate blue-green algae bloom. KDWP on their website shows the lake is under a warning.
The Warning designation means you want to avoid swimming or wading, water skiing or jet skiing, and keep livestock and pets away. Clean your fish well and discard the guts. If you or your pets have contact with the lake water, all you need to do is wash with clean water as soon as possible.
If people or pets have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, irritated eyes, seizures, breathing problems, or other unexplained illnesses then you should contact a doctor immediately.
