Indy Main Street Project Could Be Done Sooner Than Expected

The West Main Street upgrade project between 8th and 10th Streets in Independence could be done within the next two weeks.

City Engineer John Garris says there are a few tasks left to complete by the project sub-contractors, including grinding and marking the pavement. The project is funded in part by a Kansas Department of Transportation grant, which means it has to meet certain state specifications and pass inspection before the street is opened.

Garris says if everything goes as planned with inspections and weather conditions the street could reopen by the end of July or maybe even a little sooner.
