Nowata Commission Close to Finalizing Radio Project

The Nowata County Commissioners move closer to a resolution regarding the First Responders Radio Project. This item has been discussed at several meetings without a solution being found. Emergency management director Laurie Summers says city officials want a radio for each first responder in the county. District No. 2 Commissioner Timmie Benson, who works with Wann Fire Department, says he doesn't see why each person needs a radio.

The commissioners want each agency to at least have a few individual radios and give them the ability to purchase more down the road. The initial quote was for over 100 handheld radios. The board was able to reduce that number to 27 handheld radios to go along with 62 truck radios. This will take roughly $30,000 off the cost. A final quote could be presented at next week’s meeting.
