The state of Kansas has experienced some extreme heat over the last month. K-State Meteorologist Chip Redmond says heat bursts are causing the record-setting highest low temperatures across the state.

Redmond says similar to a down burst in a thunderstorm, heat bursts are very localized.  Redmond says the Kansas Mesonet is a valuable online resource with multiple useful tools including the animal comfort index for livestock owners. A link to the Kansas Mesonet website can be here.
