The City of Thayer Public Water Supply Under Boil Advisory

Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued a boil water advisory on June 20th for the city of Thayer and the Coal Hollow Water Company public water supply system. It will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are corrected. The City of Thayer reports that KDHE says there was a loss of pressure in the distribution systems caused by a water line break.

Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice: if your tap water appears cloudy or off-color, flush the lines by letting it run until it clears. Boil water for at least one minute prior to drinking or food prep. Toss out ice cubes, including the ice in your automatic icemaker. Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water, which includes 1 teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water. While you do not need to boil water used for bathing you do need to supervise children while bathing so that water is not ingested. KDHE will inform the community when it is safe to go back to normal tap water handling procedures.
