The Independence Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Wednesday morning.

At 3:45 am, IFD arrived at 217 S Earl Avenue. When IFD arrived the structure was fully engulfed. The IFD said they had to use a defensive attack with several hand lines as well as utilizing Tower 1 aerial master stream to bring the fire under control. Cherryvale Fire and Dearing Fire assisted IFD and Independence Rural Fire Departments.

By 8 am the fire was extinguished. The structure appears to be a total loss and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. No injuries were reported.
