CML&P is Ready for Hotter Summer Months

Coffeyville Municipal Light and Power is assuring residents that they will be able to meet all electricity needs for the upcoming summer season.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration has previously released a report suggesting that temperatures could exceed what is typical of June, July, and August. Those temperatures will create a higher-than-normal demand for electricity. The Southwest Power Pool anticipates that the demand will peak at 51.1 gigawatts and are prepared to serve at least 55.5 gigawatts.

Coffeyville’s Director of Electric Services, Mike Shook, said that Coffeyville’s nearly 90 megawatts of generating capacity, along with the generation fleet of the Grand River Dam Authority, is counted within the SPP’s fleet of available generating resources.

The Southwest Power Pool oversees the bulk electric grid in the central United States on behalf of companies in 14 states.
