Katie Sawyer of McPherson is selected as running mate by candidate for Governor Derek Schmidt. Sawyer, 38, if elected, will be the youngest Republican lieutenant governor currently serving in America. She has served almost six years as director of all in-state operations and constituent services for now-U.S. Senator Roger Marshall. Before public service, Sawyer was a teacher at McPherson College, managing editor of the McPherson Sentinel, and a reporter at the Pittsburg Morning Sun. She is a graduate of PSU and along with her husband operate a fourth-generation family farm in McPherson County. A strong believer in traditional Kansas values, Katie Sawyer says she wants every Kansas to have the opportunities she and her family have been afforded to build a wonderful life here in the greatest state in America.
