A social media post leads to an arrest for domestic violence.

Independence Police officers were dispatched to a report of domestic violence in the 200 block of S. Pennsylvania Ave. No serious injuries were reported. A person messaged the IPD Facebook page that they saw a post showing domestic violence. An alert dispatcher saw the message and dispatched officers to a possible location.

After an investigation officers arrested 33-year-old Dustin Register, of Independence, for domestic battery. Police Chief Jerry Harrison does discourage citizens from reporting crimes to the Facebook page. He says the best way to report an emergency is to call 9-1-1 if you can, text 9-1-1 if you can’t.
