Fertilizer prices are currently three to four times higher than they are normally. Livestock Production Extension Agent Wendie Powell says with the higher costs of fertilizer the most important thing a producer can do is take soil tests.

Powell says where you gather your samples from and how many samples you bring in will depend on the layout of the land you are having tested.  Powell says when gathering soil samples you want to go down about six inches to gather soil to be tested.
