The Independence Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Garden Walk Apartments. First arriving units found an apartment fire with a bedroom fully on fire.

Crews started working on putting out the fire while the Independence Police Department aided with search and rescue of the apartment complex. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, and all residences were safely evacuated, along with three animals rescued. The fire was contained to just the one apartment and was isolated to a bedroom, and contents to that bedroom were considered a total loss. The fire is under investigation by the IFD and IPD. All other residents were allowed to return to their apartments.
