Year in Review: February's Record Lows

Following one of the most abnormal years that was 2020 many looked for 2021 to bring a fresh change and better year. It wouldn't take long to be greeted by the first significant challenge of the new year for Coffeyville and the surrounding areas. As February saw record lows, rolling blackouts and concerns over natural gas supply.

As we got closer and closer to the potential storms many were making guesses at the amount of snowfall, but News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone said it was just too early to tell.  When the storms did hit they brought record cold temperatures with them and put a strain on many power companies. Coffeyville Utilizes Director Mike Shook asked the city to conserve as much power as possible.

Many people dealt with the loss of power or heat, including us here at the radio station, but after a week of below-freezing temperatures, water line breaks, rolling blackouts and conserving energy we made it through the first big event of 2021.
