Agents with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Cowley County Sheriff's Office are investigating a homicide at the Cowley State Fishing Lake.

Just after 6:00pm Wednesday night, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a shooting. Deputies responded to the lake and conducted an extensive search to locate the victim. At around 8:00pm, they discovered 37-year-old Joel Leon-Santos, of Ark City, who was suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite attempted life-saving measures, the victim died from his injuries. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME.
