USDA Grants to Headed to SEK Communities

The USDA has announced that it is sending nearly $16 million in grants and loans to improve critical infrastructure across rural communities in southeast Kansas. Congressman Jake LaTurner said that these grants from the USDA will help rural communities improve the quality of drinking water and sewer systems.

Chetopa will receive $2.3 million to rehabilitate the city’s sewer system, including repairs to manholes, service taps, and installation of new pipe. Neodesha will receive nearly $1.5 million to construct and improve the city’s water distribution system by installing an elevated water storage tank and new waterlines, as well as upgrading the existing elevated storage tank. Caney will get just over $1 million to cover the costs associated with the replacement of a section of waterlines in the city. Lastly, Neosho County Rural Water District #4 will get $12,540,000 to construct and make improvements to the Rural Water District’s distribution system by constructing a new booster pump station, a new elevated storage tank, and installing new water supply lines.

The USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas.
