Multiple fire departments battle a major fire at a home in Independence. Independence Fire-EMS received a report of a structure fire at 725 N. Penn Ave this morning at around 10:19am. Arriving units found a fully involved structure with houses on both sides in immediate danger. A ground and aerial attack brought the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Units remained on scene as the structure is considered unsafe and is being torn down. Three neighboring houses also sustained damage during the fire. Units from Independence Rural, Dearing Rural, and Cherryvale Fire-EMS assisted on the call. Ambulances from Coffeyville and Parsons assisted with EMS coverage during the call.
