Two Arrested After Vehicle Chase Through Independence

Two men have been arrested after a car chase through the southern side of Independence.

Just after 1 AM on Wednesday, patrol deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle displaying expired registration in Independence. The vehicle failed to stop when signaled to do so and took off at a high rate of speed.

Deputies conducted a tactical vehicle intervention in the area of 17th and Cedar Streets, forcing the vehicle to stop. The driver, identified as Cornelius Williams of Wichita, then tried to flee on foot. He was quickly captured and taken into custody. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Douglas Allen of Independence, was also taken into custody.

Williams has been booked on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude officers, while Allen was booked on charges of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.

The case has been turned over to the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office for review.
