Kansas Department of Health and Enviroment Begin Omicron Variant Monitoring

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has started Omicron variant monitoring in the state. The Department started preparation on Monday to track cases of the new variant once they are identified in the state. Currently, there are no cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the state.

As this is a new variant, it is still unknown how transmissible or contagious the variant is. It is also unclear how quickly it will spread, however, with over 64% of the eligible population fully vaccinated, Kansas is more prepared for Omicron than previous variants.
