Coyotes Population Increasing, Prevention Tactics

A common predator that causes a lot of damage to livestock and chickens in Kansas is the coyote.

When looking at the abundance trends, the population of coyotes has increased. K-State Diversified Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent Adaven Scronce says that the population has increased three-fold since the fur market crashed in the late 1980s.

While coyotes are omnivores, they do damage to farmers and ranchers as they kill livestock and poultry. While some methods are lethal, Scronce says there are many non-lethal methods to prevent coyote damage.
