Two Area Lakes Removed from Watch Status, Three Remain On List

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has announced they have removed the watch levels of two area lakes. Big Hill Lake and Parsons Lake were removed from the watch level for blue-green algae.

Big Hill Lake was first put on the list in June after a high level of algae bloom had been detected. Parsons Lake was added in late July.

Two warnings and a watch remain for three lakes in the area. The Altamont City Lake – North Lake and Neosho State Fishing Lake are on the warning list while the Altamont City Lake – Main Lake continues to be on the watch list.

The KDHE updates the results weekly. People are encouraged to avoid areas of algae accumulation and keep pets and livestock away from the water.
