The 2020 Crime Index for Montgomery County has been released.

 

The report shows that Coffeyville had nearly 500 total crimes reported with 58 being violent crimes while Independence had 547 total crimes with 90 being of the violent variety. Cherryvale had 42 reported crimes while Caney had 22.

 

Independence Chief of Police Jerry Harrison said that while the crime rate for Independence was the highest of reporting agencies in the county, the community faces unique challenges when it comes to police spending.

 

Chief Harrison says that there are things that citizens can do that have a bigger impact on reducing crime than IPD alone.
