Domestic Turns to Attempted Murder in Parsons

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on attempted murder charges.

Parsons Police were called to a report of a domestic fight that took place in the 300 block of South 22nd Street. A victim interview indicated that Jack Thomas Melton of Parsons got into a physical domestic fight with the victim before leaving Parsons to go to Altamont.

Officers were told that Melton attacked the victim from behind by punching her and then putting her in a chokehold from behind while making homicidal comments. This led the victim to fear for her life. She was able to break free and grab one of their two children and leave the house to call the police. During the struggle, a 1-year-old male child suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the victim, Melton left the residence with their 3-year-old child and went to a family member's house in Altamont where he was detained by Altamont Police. Melton was arrested on suspicion of Attempted Second Degree Murder, Abuse of a Child, and Aggravated Child Endangerment.
