Security footage and social media help lead to the arrest of a 15-year-old for theft and criminal damage. Last week, a citizen discovered their security camera had been stolen from their home. Independence Police Officers were able to get video of the suspect from the stolen camera.

Several neighbors reported their vehicles had also been broken into. One victim saw a post on social media regarding the crime and was able to identify the suspect and led officers to a possible residence. Police obtained a search warrant on the suspect’s home and found evidence of other crimes. Police were able to recover some stolen items.

The teenager was taken into custody and transported to the Girard Juvenile Detention Center. Chief Jerry Harrison says this case is an example of how powerful social media and willing witnesses can be in the community’s fight against crime.
