The man shot by a Chanute police officer over the weekend has died.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation confirmed that 28-year-old Brandon Schlichting died shortly after 1:00 am Sunday morning. On Friday, Chanute police had received a report of a suspicious person looking into car windows. When officers attempted to make contact with the man, confirmed to be Schlichting, officials claim he pulled a weapon and pointed it at the Chanute officer. The officer fired one time, hitting Schlichting in the head. He later died at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

The officer's name has not been released, and any further information is being held pending further investigation.
