The Independence Police Department wants to remind citizens that complaint and commendation forms are available to help citizens communicate with the department. Anyone who wants to recognize exemplary officer behavior or who believes police misconduct has occurred can obtain the forms from the IPD website. A link to those forms can be found here.

Both forms are available at the public library and from members of the Police Chief’s Advisory Committee. All members of IPD are required to furnish a complaint form upon request. Complaints are accepted over the phone or in person. IPD investigates third-party complaints and anonymous complaints if sufficient information is provided. Chief Jerry Harrison says this process is intended to strengthen community trust in IPD.
