As schools are starting to open up around the area, motorists need to be aware of school zones, crosswalks, and school buses. Independence Police Chief Jerry Harrison says school zone speed limits stay in effect for the entire school day and if you are caught speeding, it can be expensive.

Chief Harrison also says you must be aware of school bus lights and stop signs.
