The world's largest and most powerful steam locomotive is making its way through southeast Kansas today and tomorrow.

Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014 is on the move, and will make stops in Paola at 11:15 am, Moran at 1:45 pm, and finally Parsons by 4 pm Wednesday. The 1.2 million pound locomotive will come to a rest at Clark Ave. and North 20th Street, where it will remain until 8 am on Thursday.

No. 4014 is the only operating Big Boy out of the 25 that were assembled from 1941 to 1944. It was originally retired in 1961, but was restored and returned to service in May 2019 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad's completion.
