Redistricting Dates Set, SEK Expected to Lose Representation

The dates have now been set for 14 town hall meetings that will be held to gather opinions on how political boundaries should be redrawn in 2022 after the preliminary numbers of the census were released last week. Representative Doug Blex said two of the meetings will be held in southeast Kansas.

Blex said that the final numbers will come in on August 16th and there may be a final round of meetings in the future to get the districts as close as possible so there is equal representation across the state.

Johnson County is expected to gain seats while counties in western and southeastern Kansas will lose seats. Montgomery, Labette, and Cherokee counties were in the top 10 of population loss when the preliminary numbers were released last week.
