Two items on the ballots in Labette and Cherokee counties were soundly passed in Tuesday night's election.
In Labette County, Chetopa residents were asked if they would like to adopt a 0.5% retailers' sales tax for parks and street maintenance and improvements. The question passed with nearly 82% of the vote. The tax will go into effect on January 1st and run for 5 years.
In Columbus, USD 493 was looking to issue bonds of just under $14.7 million. Those bonds would pay for improvements to the Central Campus Facility, as well as improvements to the 7th-grade wing at the existing high school building, and fund additional improvements as needed. That question passed with 72% of the vote.
