A county courthouse could soon have a new memorial gracing its front lawn.

The Chautauqua County Veterans Memorial is intended to be a lasting tribute to those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The effort to build the memorial is being led by the Veterans Memorial Board, the Chautauqua County Board of Commissioners, local veterans and their family and friends. Board member Richard Hambleton said the plan was formed a couple of years ago.

The cost of building the memorial will start at about $35,000. Hambleton said about $8,000 has already been raised through donations. Those wishing to assist with the project can make a donation to the Sedan Area Foundation with 'Veterans Memorial' in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to the Chautauqua County Veterans Memorial at PO Box 190 in Sedan. A photo of the proposed design can be found posted with this story.
