A Parsons man is in custody following a child sex crime.

Earlier this week, the Parsons Police Department was notified about a possible fight. It was reported to them that a 21-year old man had tried to solicit sex from a 15-year-old female. The two had arranged to meet up through social media.

The suspect was identified as John Coates, who was arrested for suspicion of Indecent Liberties with a Child, Criminal Sodomy, and Indecent Solicitation of a Child. Coates was taken into custody without incident. He is being held waiting for his first appearance in front of a Labette County District Court Judge.
