Vomitoxin in Wheat and Corn

Vomitoxin was an issue that occurred in the wheat harvest a few weeks ago and could occur again in the corn harvest later this year. K-State Wildcat Extension District Crops and Soils Agent James Coover explains what vomitoxin is.

Unfortunately, not much can be done if vomitoxin is found in your wheat and it is usually not known until it is too late. Coover says about the only other thing you can do is feed it to your animals but even then, you have to be careful how much and what animal you give it to.

Coover also said that you must watch out for various types of ear rot that causes the formation of vomitoxin.
