Over fifty people gathered in Mound Valley to discuss the potential of wind energy expansion into Labette County. Seven people spoke at the meeting, no one in favor of wind farms. One of the speakers, a school teacher at Labette County High School, Lindsey Wilson says she wants the commission to spend more time considering wind farms.

Topics discussed during the meeting included the effects on wildlife, health, and property value. Wilson says should landowners leasing their property have more say than homeowners who could be affected.

Discussion of this topic has picked up over the last few months and currently, a group of people against these wind farms is seeking the recall of District 2 Commissioner Brian Kinzie. Commission Chairman Lonie Addis was the only commissioner present at this meeting.
