Big Hill Lake Under HAB Warning for Blue-Green Algae

The KDHE upgraded its harmful algae bloom watch for Big Hill Lake to a warning over the weekend.

The upgrade was made around 2:30 p.m. Friday. A warning is issued when a harmful algal bloom, in this case blue-green algae, is expected or present. Water is determined to be unsafe for humans and animals, and should be avoided. Fish may still be eaten, but should be rinsed with clean water while only the fillet portion is consumed. All other portions must be discarded.

Big Hill Lake, in Labette County, previously closed its swim beach late last month due to a previous advisory.  For up to the date tracking information, you may view the KDHE's algal bloom page here.
