The name of the man who drowned at Elk City Lake late last week has been released. After Family notification, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the Independence man that drowned, as 47-year-old Craig Gilson. Friday, deputies were dispatched at about 5:00pm after reports of a possible drowning.

Witnesses at the scene told the deputies that they had heard a man yell for help before going underwater. The witnesses also reported that they had tried to help the victim, but were unable to. At around 11:20pm, Gilson's body was recovered from the lake. Sheriff Ron Wade asks that the public continue to respect the privacy of the family.
