A man was reported to have drowned at Elk City Lake early Friday evening.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's office were dispatched about 5 p.m. after reports of a possible drowning. Witnesses at the scene told the deputies that they had heard a man yell for help before going underwater. The witnesses also reported that they had tried to help the victim, but were unable to.

At around 11:20 p.m, the body of a 47-year-old white male was recovered from the lake. The name of the victim is currently being withheld pending family notification. Foul play is not suspected.
