Passenger Arrested for Drugs During Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop leads to the arrest of the passenger on drug charges. Yesterday afternoon, a Montgomery County Sheriff Deputy, Detective and a Kansas Bureau of Investigation Agent conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Independence. The driver was identified as Joshua Werner, of Cherryvale, and the passenger as Judy Eastwood, of Neodesha.

Werner did not have a valid driver's license and while speaking with him the deputy noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the car. During the search, deputies located marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on Eastwood's side of the vehicle and in her bag. Both were transported to the Department of Corrections, and during booking, officers located more narcotics on Eastwood. Werner has suggested charges of driving while suspended and Eastwood with multiple drug charges and trafficking contraband into a corrections facility.
