Livestock Water Requirements

Providing adequate water to livestock is critical for animal health and production. Livestock water requirements are affected by many factors depending on the species. K-State Livestock Production Agent Wendie Powell gives an example of the difference between dairy cattle and beef cattle.

Livestock that are provided low-quality water will have reduced water and feed intake, resulting in reduced production and possible dehydration. Powell says to look for these signs and symptoms of dehydration in livestock which can be fatal.

For more information about this topic, you can contact Powell at the K-State Extension office in Altamont at (620) 784-5337.
