Dangers & Treatment of Blue-Green Algae

 

A wet spring and a dry, hot summer is the perfect recipe for blue-green algae on both lakes and ponds. This is not only dangerous to humans but more so to pets and livestock. KDHE Bureau of Water Director Tom Stiles says the algae generates toxins.

 

Stiles says if your pet does come in contact with the algae to get them to a veterinarian immediately. If you do have blue-green algae in your ponds, Stiles says there are ways to treat it.  Stiles says if you need more information about blue-green algae you can visit the KDHE website.
