The Independence Tag Office will be closed starting June 21st due to low staffing numbers. Several staff members have resigned in 2021, and with the few employees remaining spread thin, County Treasurer Nancy Clubine said she had no choice but to close the office. 

There will be one employee remaining in Independence for those who simply need to renew their tags. However, Clubine said any non-renewal business must now go to the Coffeyville Tag Office.

The office will reopen once more staffers are hired. Clubine suggested increasing the salaries of remaining employees until more are found, but was met by indecision by the Montgomery County Commission. The commission will be discussing how to best handle the issue at a work session on June 16th.
